Chlorophyll in our body

Some health benefits of chlorophyll

Chemically, structure of chlorophyll has similarities with hemoglobin. The difference is only on the central atom of molecule. Central atom in chlorophyll is magnesium (Mg) whereas hemoglobin is iron (Fe). If hemoglobin is identified as the red blood of human, then the chlorophyll can be identified as green blood.

Because of similar structure, chlorophyll molecules are the only one molecule that naturally can be accepted by the body and become a vital nutrient for it.

Chemical structure of chlorophyll and hemoglobin

Why chlorophyll?

Chlorophyll is the fastest red blood cell-forming in the human body

In the process of metabolism; the energy comes from red blood cells, which inside them there are molecules carrying oxygen named hemoglobin.

Chlorophyll is the fastest red blood cell-forming in the human body. By consuming it, blood cell count can rise quickly so that energy supply in the body can be continuously assured.

In his book, The Healing Power of Chlorophyll, Bernard Jensen asserted various experiments with rats, which their blood was replaced by chlorophyll. The result was that chlorophyll was still to maintain the survival of rats.

Tim O'Shea in his book, The Sancity of Human Blood, also confirmed that chlorophyll was the only molecule that could be accepted by the body because of its similarity to hemoglobin so that it is potential in increasing the resilience of human body.

Main functions of chlorophyll

What are the main functions of chlorophyll?

The use of chlorophyll to the human body can help in terms of:

  • Increase the number of blood cells, particularly increasing the production of hemoglobin in the blood,

  • Overcome anemia,

  • Clean the body tissues,

  • Helps cleanse the liver and its function,

  • Increase body resistance against foreign substances (viruses, bacteria, parasites),

  • Strengthen the cell,

  • Protect DNA against damage, but the most important of chlorophyll is safe to our body.

In addition, chlorophyll also serves as a disinfectant and antibiotics, even before the existence of synthetic drugs. It cleanses the body tissues and residual waste disposal sites in the body's metabolism, as well as against parasites, bacteria and viruses that exist in the human body. In fact, it can eliminate toxic chemical compounds in the body.

Tail of chlorophyll molecules that are hydrophobic can dig into the cell/tissue and lift hydrocarbon compounds from the cell membrane and then release toxic compounds. That hydrocarbon is pesticides, drug that accumulates in the body, food coloring, even bacteria, parasites and viruses.

Ann Wigmore in the Wheatgrass Book, 1985, stated that chlorophyll could protect us from the carcinogenic compounds, where food and other drugs were not working anymore. Chlorophyll acted to strengthen the cells, release toxic substances from the liver and bloodstream, and chemically neutralize pollutants.

Latest Development of Chlorophyll Applications

This article will explain about the latest development of chlorophyll applications

Because of dengue viruses attack that causes symptoms of bleeding and decreased platelet counts, chlorophyll is properly noticed in the attempt of alternative medicine. In the term of prevention, consuming chlorophyll is a prudent action to increase the body's defense allowing us against foreign substances entering into the body.

Blood circulation, which is clean and rich in red blood cells, is the most body's natural defense mechanisms. Actually, nature has provided the sources of chlorophyll those can be consumed. The simplest way is to eat regularly chlorophyll-rich green vegetables every day.

Although chlorophyll could be directly ingested, but recent research showed that pure chlorophyll affected by many processing (cooked), its main function would be damaged. It would be difficult to be absorbed by the human body, even wasted in the exhaust system. So, it is highly recommended for people to consume fresh vegetables without being processed.

For patients who really need chlorophyll, by utilizing high-tech, its extraction can be performed before its quality and its main function is declined. By adding a magnesium atom together with copper and sodium in the molecule, so that chlorophyll molecules can be dissolved in water and become stable. The addition of these new atoms will produce new chemical structures called Chlorophyllin. It has been traded with various trademarks in the form of tablets, capsules or liquid.

In addition as treatment for dengue fever, chlorophyll also has potential as photosensitizer (a trigger drug activated by light stimulus) to treat tumors and cancer. Drugs like this are not new thing, having been applied in photodynamic therapy. In Japan, Germany and the United States, these techniques had been used to tackle cancer such as: brain, lung and mouth. Photodynamic becomes an alternative therapy more secure than radiowave therapy and chemotherapy, often accompanied by side effects such as: hair loss and skin damage. Unlike chemotherapy which takes the time interval between administrations, photodynamic therapy can be performed more often in a specified period.

Utilization of photodynamic technology (TFD) is essentially based on the assumption that photosensitizer (chlorophyll) will be able to kill cancer cells when the compounds were exposed to visible light at specific wavelengths (630-800 nm) and particular intensity. In its application, chlorophyll is injected into the body, which then automatically absorbed by the cells. Chlorophyll, which acts as a photosensitizer, will accumulate in cancer cells and stay longer when compared to its presence in normal cells. To detect the presence of chlorophyll in cancer cells, patients given the medication were scanned. Part contained chlorophyll would glow brightly.

Action mechanism of chlorophyll as a sensitizer is to be the trigger of oxygen species into the highly reactive singlet oxygen that will kill cancer cells. The process is when the photosensitizer absorbs light. It will be excited in singlet state. This situation did not last long; the photosensitizer will change to triplet state. In this state, photosensitizer will react with oxygen which must exist in human tissue, including cancerous tissue. Oxygen in the ground state will be excited to highly reactive singlet oxygen, which in turn will destroy cancer cells. In the end, photosensitizer that has been doing its duties will be back to normal.

Next about chlorophyll...

In the future, research of chlorophyll is predicted taking place primarily for further application

It is based on the fact that chlorophyll is natural ingredients and not toxic as chemical drugs that have been commonly used. In addition, use of chlorophyll from photosynthetic bacteria as a cancer drug is still meeting resistance.

In the research, there are three important electronic stages such as: fundamental stage, radical cation and exited stage. During research, it stuck on exited stage because the lifetime of molecule is very short, at the level of pico-seconds (10-9 seconds), so that very difficult to measure molecules very unstable even if its structure can be obtained.

Benefits we can get from the use of chlorophyll is the importance of back to nature by re-consuming foods produced by nature. In synthetic drugs, we only isolate their bioactive compounds (toxic compounds) effective as anti-disease for the plant without taking its anti-toxic compound, while natural remedy has provided as well as two compounds. They are toxic compounds and antitoxic.
